MONTREAL | Hockey Hall of Famer Guy Lafleur has been convicted of giving contradictory evidence at his son's bail hearing.
The former Montreal Canadiens star will be sentenced next month. The Crown is asking that Lafleur be given a conditional sentence; the defense is seeking a fine.
        Lafleur faces a maximum prison sentence of 14 years.

Armstrong third in third Gila stage
SILVER CITY, N.M. | Lance Armstrong placed third Friday in the Tour of the Gila's third stage, a time trial that started and finished in the mining village of Tyrone.
 Armstrong covered the hilly 16-mile course in 34 minutes, 22 seconds. Armstrong's teammate, Levi Leipheimer, won in 31:32.59 and remained the authentic Carlos Ruiz jersey Grey Tour of the Gila's overall leader.

The field remains in pristine condition, a green grass oasis in the middle of the concrete city, but Kinsmen Memorial Stadium sits idle today.

While local teams - stocked with current, former and likely future BU students, incidentally - have been forced to scramble to find alternate places to play, BU vice-president Scott Lamont made it clear on Friday that there will be no compromise on the part of the university.

 "Not at all," said Lamont. "We gave them two years warning ... The university does need to get ready to start building its buildings. In dramatic fashion, his teammates took advantage.
The Wamps (6-4, 4-4) pushed across a run in the top of the ninth inning Thursday, handing Weymouth its first Bay State Conference conference Steve Carlton official jersey loss this season, 1-0.

       GARDINER -- It's been an up-and-down season for the Gardiner baseball team.
