July, Eagles Randall Cunningham Jersey 13, 2011 Jul 13 12:17 AM ET Email Print Comments4 By Gordon Edes PHOENIX -- Josh Beckett took the prudent way out Tuesday night. When he felt soreness in his left knee warming up for the second inning, the Red Sox right-hander elected not to pitch for the American League All-Stars and informed manager Ron Washington he was out. He said that's what he pledged to Sox manager Terry Francona he would do if he sensed any discomfort. "It's Authentic Adam Burish Jersey kind of weird,'' he told reporters afterward. "I was warming up and didn't feel 100 percent. I told Tito if I felt it at all when I'm out here I would speak up. It's not something I was comfortable with. I don't think I re-injured it but it still definitely has inflammation.'' Beckett was removed Authentic James Harrison Jersey after five innings from his last start last Friday against the Orioles with what was called a mildly hyperextended left knee. His next start is scheduled Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla., but he acknowledged that could be pushed back a couple of days. Of course, it could be longer if the condition persists. Clay Buchholz has a strained back muscle that he predicted would cost him no more than a couple of weeks and now it's nearly a month and counting. "When I came off the long flight [from Boston Sunday] it was a little bit stiff,'' Beckett said. "When I got here, I jogged around a little bit. It got a little bit better, but it wasn't Packers Charles Woodson Jersey something I was going to mess with. "That was one thing Wash emphasized -- 'I want to send you guys back the way you came here.' I'm sure he understands but he's probably not happy.'' Beckett insisted he could Jets Mark Sanchez Jersey have pitched if this had been more than an exhibition. "I'm just Penguins Kris Letang Jersey not comfortable going out there Colts Peyton Manning Jersey and getting hurt in an All-Star game and costing myself starts in the second half,'' he said. "I think that's how everybody should be. This game does mean a lot with home-field advantage and everything, Premier Jonathan Vilma Jersey but at the same time there are some things that are ahead that are a little more important. "If it was a regular game I could have pitched through it, but if something happened I would have made a lot of people not look good.''

Email Print Comments1 By Tom Lakin Special to ESPNBoston.com Archive For the past two weeks, Tom Blanchette has been home only when it's dark outside. Just after dawn each morning, Blanchette heads off to his job cheap authentic jerseys as director of operations at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and he doesn't return until close to midnight. He and his staff have been working grueling double shifts in anticipation of the big summer race weekend in Loudon, which culminates in the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 Sprint Cup race Sunday. "You can imagine it's been pretty crazy here this week," says Kristen Costa, the track's director of communications. "Everyone is really busy." "Our daily schedule for the past two weeks has been from 6 a.m. until 11 at night working on race preparations," Blanchette says. "And we've also cheap authentic jerseys been working with our normal track rental clients. We have only had four days in the past month in which the track was not rented by at least one customer or more each day. In many cases, much of the race prep work can only be done in the early morning or evening hours while we meet the needs of our rental clients." Such is the life of a New Hampshire Motor Speedway employee in the days leading up to the Lenox 301, one of the biggest New England racing events of the year. With 100,000 fans expected to stream into Loudon this weekend, Blanchette and his team have been hard at work on various initiatives -- everything from cutting grass and line-striping to the building of pedestrian walkways and the construction of an additional water storage facility. An access road near the tunnel has also been widened, Blanchette says, and the main track entrance has been freshly stripped and seal-coated, along with "many other facilities management projects." New Hampshire Motor Speedway Courtesy of New Hampshire Motor Speedway A new video scoreboard at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was something fans had asked for. One of this year's biggest additions cheap authentic jerseys is a $1.2 million Panasonic video scoreboard, which was officially unveiled Thursday. The scoreboard, which is 80 feet tall and boasts three 32-foot-by-18-foot Panasonic TV screens, will offer live streaming race coverage, replay and a scrolling leaderboard with running positions and lap times for all drivers. A 150-ton crane was needed to hoist the final piece into place. "From cheap authentic jerseys all of the fan feedback, including cheap authentic jerseys letters, emails and fan forums, a new scoreboard system has been one of the cheap authentic jerseys biggest requests in regards to facility upgrades," track general manager Jerry Gappens said in a press release. "Our chairman Bruton Smith listened to fans and is now giving them one of the best scoreboard systems in the world." Another new treat for racing fans is the Lite Lobster Lounge, a "New England-themed watering hole sponsored by Miller Lite that features food, beverage and entertainment in a family-friendly atmosphere," according to the track's website. The bar will be located in the track's Broadway Midway and, during a weekend that calls for temperatures in the low 90s, it cheap authentic jerseys is sure to be a hit with fans. And for Blanchette and the rest of the speedway team, keeping those fans happy and under control is the most important -- and at times, the most difficult -- part of the weekend. "Some of the biggest challenges we will face this weekend will simply be making sure that everything that has been done at NHMS for years is continued and improved upon," Blanchette says, "so that our valued guests continue to be excited about racing at the Magic Mile and can't wait to come back and experience it again." Blanchette -- a Lancaster, N.H., native who has been involved with NASCAR in various roles since 1990, both locally and in Daytona Beach, Fla. -- says that even with the long hours and exhausting work, he still looks forward each year to the track's major events. "The most fun thing," Blanchette says, "is seeing thousands of people with smiles on their faces having a great time, and knowing that the team has done a great job planning and executing the event and that all cheap authentic jerseys the hard work has paid off."

July, 14, 2011 Jul 14 3:39 PM ET Email Comments34 Sometimes in baseball it's Premier Pierre Garcon Jersey all about the asterisk, and I don't mean in regards to Roger Maris and Barry Bonds. As baseball begins its second half, I Authentic Andrew Ladd Jersey see many players with that annoying little symbol next to their names in fantasy Authentic Tom Barrasso Jersey leagues, which means those fellows aren't helping your teams because they're on the disabled list. Of course, it doesn't tell the tale of their actual value. Here are the players in the top 250 on the ESPN Player Rater currently on the disabled list and my thoughts on them the rest of the season. By the way, the impetus for this idea came from how I discussed New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez on the Fantasy Focus show Replica Donald Driver Jersey Wednesday. I said be very careful in acquiring him, because the right knee surgery he underwent Monday could very well keep him out of the lineup until September. That's a problem, even for Packers Donald Driver Jersey the No. 4 third Premier Nick Mangold Jersey baseman on our Player Rater and No. 52 overall. I say sell him now Replica Malcolm Jenkins Jersey in roto leagues, but if you can qualify for the head-to-head playoffs without him, don't. A-Rod for four weeks is still better than none, but it's far from 10 weeks, which is what is left. Youth James Harrison Jersey By the way, he was officially placed on the disabled list Thursday afternoon.

At present, the Red Sox 40-man roster is full. In addition, Authentic Jordan Staal Jersey Marco Scutaro has a mutual option and Dan Wheeler and Andrew Miller have club options. For discussion’s sake, Blackhawks Patrick Sharp Jersey let’s say four spots will open on the 40-man roster this offseason, not counting potential trades. This supposes that any players removed from the 40-man roster beyond that will be replaced by free agents, rather than internally. Typically, the Red Sox add two or three minor leaguers to the 40-man in November, but this year, they are almost Premier Bart Starr Jersey certain to add at least four players, and could even add more. Fry turned out to be right, but it was a statement from one of Long's other coaches that foreshadowed his long-term future in the sport. Long was midway through his record-setting career at Iowa when he returned to his high school, Wheaton North in suburban Chicago, to assist with the school's summer football camp. Jim Rexilius, wholesale cavaliers jersey Wheaton North's Hall of Fame coach, noted the way cheap cavaliers jersey Long taught and interacted with the players. "After one camp, [Rexilius] said, 'You know, you oughta think about getting into coaching when you're done playing,'" Long recalled. "He knew I still had some years of playing, but he must have seen something in me. "That’s when the first bug was put in my ear." Email Print Comments25 Associated Press CHICAGO -- Florida Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria isn't counting out his team. Loria said "anything can happen" and he's not ruling out playoff contention even as the Marlins entered Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs last in the NL East at 44-48, 13½ games out in the division and 10 back in the wild card. They've improved with a season-high six straight wins after a miserable June that included a 1-19 stretch in which Edwin Rodriguez resigned and 80-year-old Jack McKeon replaced him on an interim basis as manager. "I haven't counted us out yet," wholesale sports jerseys Loria said. "I hope you guys haven't. I know it looks tough, but what are we now -- four under? Jack says as soon as we get (to .500), you never know what can happen." He added: "I would never bet against Jack McKeon." Loria said there's a chance McKeon could be brought back as manager next season, adding that experience will be a requirement for the job. "There'll be a number of candidates, but right now, Jack's the manager," Loria said. "We'll see where it goes at the end of the year. There is a chance. I'm not ruling anything out, but it will have to be somebody with experience. I'm not going to allow a repeat of what happened." The Marlins flirted with the idea of hiring a big-name manager last season, stirring speculation about courtships with Ozzie Guillen and Bobby Valentine. Instead, they decided to retain Rodriguez after he took over on an interim basis last June 23 and led them to a 46-46 record the rest of the way. He got a one-year contract in the offseason but resigned on June 19, with the Marlins in a full-fledged free fall. Even so, Loria insisted the resignation caught him off guard. "I didn't have any wholesale sports jerseys discussions about him leaving," he said. wholesale sports jerseys "I was out of the country. I wholesale sports jerseys was as surprised as everybody was, but you know what they say, sometimes things work out for the best. Loria spoke to Rodriguez while he was away. "I don't want to say any more," he said. "I thanked him for his effort. Obviously, he wasn't feeling good about what he was doing." Loria feels good about the direction the organization is headed. The Marlins have a new ballpark opening in 2012, and he'd like to create wholesale sports jerseys some momentum before the move. He said he "couldn't be happier" with the front office, although he thinks the minor league system needs to be replenished. "I'm going to address the minor league system at the end of the season," he said. How? "Wait and see," Loria said. "When we needed some players (in June), we didn't have them." A big reason for that was their top young players were on the major league roster. Loria understands that. He also thinks the team could use a few more veterans like Mike Cameron, whom they acquired from Boston on July 5, and a pitcher or wholesale sports jerseys two to go with another bat. Loria also said he sees no reason to change the rules governing collisions at the plate, because they happen just about every day. He said the season-ending leg and ankle injuries San Francisco's Buster Posey suffered when the Marlins' Scott Cousins wholesale sports jerseys ran into him was simply "one of those bad moments." That play led to backlash against Cousins, and Loria told his team to stay out of it. "I can understand people being upset," he said. "That's one of their stars. Responding never does anything." Possible realignment also came up during Loria's session with reporters. "I don't have an opinion about it," he wholesale sports jerseys said. "I really don't. I'm happy where we are."

Email Print Comments12 ESPN.com news services MINNEAPOLIS -- Carl Eller doesn't want to be one of the bad guys, not when the NFL seems so close to getting back to work. The Hall of Fame defensive end, one of Minnesota's fearsome Purple People Eaters, is nonetheless unhappy about wholesale nba jerseys how he and his fellow retirees have been treated as NFL owners and current players negotiate a new deal to split more than $9 billion in revenue. That deal, of course, will include retirement benefits for the former players of this dangerous sport. Eller and other retirees have sued both the NFL and the NFL Players Association, complaining that they've illegally been left out of the latest talks after taking part in court-ordered mediation sessions earlier this year. They say both sides have also conspired to keep benefit levels and pension payments low in the new collective bargaining agreement. “ Eller We're not looking for a fight. We're just looking to make things right. If football stops on our account, we don't want to be left holding the bag. We just want what we've earned. ” -- Carl Eller As loudly wholesale hurricanes jersey as they've raised their concerns, they're not interested in derailing a deal. "We're not looking for a fight. We're just looking to make things right. If football stops on our account, we don't want to be left holding the bag. We just want what we've earned," Eller said. wholesale mlb jerseys "Here's the point where we are: We don't want to do anything to hurt the game. We love the game. We support the game. In fact, we know what we want to do is support the Hall of Fame game, because that's ours." The Chicago Bears and St. Louis Rams are scheduled to play that first preseason contest, on Aug. 7 in Canton, Ohio. For ex-players like Eller, the hope is that a new labor deal will be in place to allow that game to be played -- and to allow them to celebrate their contributions and relish long-sought gains in retiree benefits. "We will use every tool in our tool bag to get our rights," Eller said. "We are following the law, so don't prosecute us or blame us for following the law. These are serious things that we're after. It could be life or death for some players, so it's essential that we get this. We're not doing this just for more money. We're doing this just because lives depend on it." Nolan Harrison, the NFLPA's senior director of retired players, declined to comment specifically on the retirees' accusations because of the pending litigation. But he said retiree benefits are being taken seriously: "We know that the guys are working hard to get a deal done. There are current and former players in the room." NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said improvements for retired players "have been an important part of the negotiations," pointing to the presence of retired players on both sides of the table, including Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and Green Bay Packers president and chief executive officer Mark Murphy. Eller and other retired players have argued for years that the benefits are inadequate. Many of the pioneers of the NFL have paid a lifelong physical price for playing a high-impact sport, and their push for better care has gained steam and public support in recent years. With his name also on the still-pending antitrust lawsuit filed against the league, Eller was wholesale nba jersey often present at early negotiating sessions. But the retirees' role has been drastically reduced, with owners and the current players meeting on their own at various places around the country. "They gave us a seat, but no chair," Hall of Fame offensive lineman Joe DeLamielleure said. "Carl Eller was told that he has a seat. These guys are negotiating again without us." Frustrated by the exclusion, Eller and his attorneys filed a second lawsuit, adding more wholesale nuggets jersey plaintiffs -- including Marcus Allen and Franco Harris -- and accusing the two wholesale nhl jersey sides of violating the mediation court order and breaking promises of better benefits. A hearing is set for Aug. 8, which could come after a new collective bargaining agreement is forged. NFL Labor Negotiations and Lockout NFL The NFL lockout began on March 11, but an end appears near. ESPN.com Topics keeps you up to date on all of the latest on the labor situation. More » Attorneys Michael Hausfeld and Shawn Stuckey declined to comment on a possible next step for the retirees. "We've had both the players and the league to admit that there were many shortcomings in the system the way it is. We want to be at the table to negotiate how we improve those on our own," Eller said. Though the league is named in the lawsuit as well, Eller said most of the frustration has been directed toward the current players. "The players have no authority to negotiate for us and the league should not be negotiating our benefits with the players association," Eller said. "That is in direct violation to what's been established at this point. They're having it both ways. That's very contradictory. It looks like to me that they're pretty much just playing games with the law, with total disregard with what's been mandated. It just kind of gives you an idea of their arrogance and what they think of the retired players." One of the problems retired players have endured in their push over the years is disorganization -- a number of groups exist. One of the most prominent is the NFL Alumni Association, led by former New York Giants defensive standout George Martin. Martin's group, like Eller's, has publicly wholesale reds jersey called on commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith to keep the interests of the retirees in mind, particularly for those who played prior to the creation of the previous CBA in 1993. "I understand the position that they've taken. Obviously, there's a lot of animosity, impatience and frustration," Martin said last week. But he said the NFLAA is not interested in legal action. "We would prefer to take a more diplomatic approach to this whole settlement," he said. Martin said he's hopeful of an increase in retiree benefits by as much as 60 percent from the previous level. He also said nearly 1,000 retirees have signed up for a new long-term health care program in what he sees as progress for their cause. Hall of Fame tight end Mike Ditka, the former Bears and New Orleans Saints head wholesale falcons jersey coach, decided not to be added as a plaintiff in Eller's lawsuit because he doesn't "believe in that" and isn't "mad at anybody" on either side. However, Ditka echoed Eller's concerns about a perceived lack of respect. "The present players really don't care about the former players. Not at all. Whether the owners do or not, I don't know," he said. "They would have to show it, and right now, nobody's shown a whole heck of a lot."
